Sonia Delen’s journey from the Philippines to the U.S. is a story of resilience, strength, and sacrifice. As a college student leader at the University of the Philippines, her defiance during the Marcos era instilled a deep commitment to serve and uplift others. Her mission became one of overcoming adversity and empowering those around her to thrive.
Upon arriving in the U.S., Sonia faced new challenges. When her firstborn, David, was born blind and hearing impaired with developmental delays, she believed raising him in America would offer better opportunities. Determined, Sonia worked tirelessly to build a life for her family while maintaining a positive outlook and confidence in her abilities.
Her persistence led her to rise through the ranks at Bank of America—Global Leasing, where she became a successful businesswoman. Beyond her corporate success, Sonia is a philanthropist and community organizer, dedicated to giving back and supporting others, particularly in the Filipino community.
Her portrait reflects both her fierceness and compassion. Dressed in a white business suit as a nod to the suffragettes, Sonia strikes a powerful yet warm pose. Shadows and bars in the background symbolize the political and personal challenges she faced in the Philippines.
With the unwavering support of her husband, Christopher Fitzsimmons, Sonia continues to champion and provide support to Filipino artists and performers, and empowering the Filipino community, amplifying their voices has solidified her as a highly regarded leader.
